Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a specialized deep tissue massage that uses digital pressure and friction to ease areas of strain in the muscles.  These areas of strain are called trigger points and are the cause of muscular pain.

Trigger points are hypersensitive areas in an overstrained muscle. Lack of blood and nutrients in the trigger point causes the muscle to become fatigued, weak and painful.  Referral pain may also result causing tingling, numbness and pain such as sciatica and headaches.

Neuromuscular therapy treats a variety of soft tissue problems including lower and upper back pain, sciatica, hip pain, tendonitis, headaches, TMJ disorders, and plantar fasciitis.

During treatment, the therapist alternates levels of concentrated pressure on areas of muscle spasm using fingers, knuckles or elbow. Sessions last from 30 minutes to one hour.

NMT is suitable for anyone with soft tissue pain. Registered massage therapists trained in this specialized form of manual therapy are available to offer information and treatment.
