Meditation

Meditation is the practice of slowing the activity in our minds and working towards a state of thoughtless awareness. Regardless of what we are doing, working in a garden or sitting in a lotus position, we can be in meditation.

Deep and profound peace is achieved when the mind is in a state of true meditation; the mind is alert, yet quiet and calm. Developed in Eastern cultures thousands of years ago, this effective tool against stress also improves quality of life and decreases healthcare costs.

There are a variety of meditation techniques, with most of the practices designed to clear the mind, lower high blood pressure and relieve anxiety and depression. It can be done sitting quietly or as active mind training during regular daily activities. Ritual objects such as prayer beads are commonly used as well.

Meditation offers a variety of benefits to the mind, body and spirit, including:

    • Increased energy
    • Lower blood pressure
    • Increased serotonin levels (feel good hormone)
    • Decreased anxiety
    • Peace of mind
    • Increased happiness
