Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

IASTM is a branch of manual therapy that uses ergonomically designed instruments to find and treat fascial dysfunction. The instruments allow the practitioner to detect scars, adhesions and other abnormalities and treat pain and tightness in the body with a greater degree of preciseness and depth that hands-on therapy cannot duplicate.

IASTM works by creating small micro-tears or microtrauma to the sheath around the muscle and connective tissue. These micro-tears stimulate a local inflammatory response, which in turn creates a healing response and healthy remodeling of the affected soft tissue.

IASTM treats a variety of issues including:

    • Neck/Back Pain
    • Shin Splints
    • Scar Tissue
    • Shoulder Pain
    • Golfer’s Shoulder
    • Foot Pain
    • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    • Tennis Elbow

IASTM also decreases treatment time, allows for faster healing and rehabilitation, and reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication.
