Personal Training

Personal Training is a personal customized fitness program tailored to a client’s individual needs and goals.  A personal trainer begins with an assessment and from that builds a program of fitness.   Generally speaking, he or she will help a client to set goals, stay motivated and achieve results.   Attention to nutrition and diet are also typically addressed.  Benefits of personal training include:

  • A trained instructor provides leadership in a client’s progress and can inspire the client when he or she struggles or needs direction
  • Exercise can be monitored so safety can be maintained and injury prevented
  • Under the guidance of a trainer who wants the client to succeed in the program, there is accountability
  • Progress and improvement are more possible with a specific plan in place and the expertise of a trainer at hand
  • Specific technique and body position can be more attainable under the watchful eye of a trainer

Personal training became popular mainstream in the 1980’s with the increased interest in health and fitness.  There were in-house personal trainers available in health clubs.   Now personal trainers offer their services in recreational facilities, clubs as well as in clients’ homes.

There are a number of reasons clients seek out personal training:  to address weight concerns, to enhance self-esteem, to prepare for a special event such as wedding, or to deal with a medical concern.

Personal training is available in a variety of settings including health club, gym, recreation center and client’s home via a mobile service. Personal training is offered on private one-to-one basis, or in some cases, partner training or group services.  Frequency of sessions and length of program depend on the goals and needs of individual client.
