Gait Assessment

Gait assessment evaluates how a person walks. Many types of walking problems occur due to some sort of physical condition.  A gait analysis is prescribed when there is a loss of balance, unexplained falls and/or decline in mobility.

Individuals with abnormal muscle contraction, joint mobility or sensory perception will benefit from gait assessment.  Once the impairment is diagnosed, treatment can begin to restore safe mobility and minimize functional loss.

Gait analysis can be done by simply watching a patient walk (dynamic testing), motion analysis, or electromyography.

Gait assessment is offered by sports therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors and certified orthotists.
