Active Release Techniques®

Active Release Techniques® (ART) is a patented treatment for soft-tissue injury.  ART uses massage and movement to locate and break-up scar tissue.

Active Release Techniques® use over 700 techniques to evaluate tightness and movement of muscles and tissue to treat the targeted area. The practitioner uses his/her hands to locate and breakdown adhesions between cross-fiber muscles. Treatment can be painful, but temporary.  As the adhesions are broken down, motion is restored and pain is alleviated.  A few of the conditions that can be treated successfully are back/neck pain, sciatica, headaches, plantar fasciitis and tendonitis.

ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP.  Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients' problems. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.
